I don’t really know what to make of the fact that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt finally got engaged. First, I see various media outlets mistakenly refer to them as husband and wife all the time already, and since they have a baker’s dozen of children together, their engagement seems like non-news. Of course they’re engaged. They’re already basically married, so why does the ring matter, either to us or to them?

The ring itself seems to be controversial, but I, for one, like it. I like that it’s not a cookie cutter, traditionally pretty humongous diamond. Angie and Brad have always been a little off-kilter, so it follows naturally that the ring would be the same way. In an ensemble like this, I think it fits in perfectly – unexpected diamond, well-fitted neutral shift dress, beige Yves Saint Laurent Cabas ChYc. Angelina seems to always dress to telegraph maximum maturity, and I think that the ring fits with that image – nontraditional, but not anti-tradition. I am, as you can tell, a fan.
